Buckaroos Fall To Lady JaysPublished Wednesday, January 24, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneNevada's senior girls split a pair last week, dropping one to Smackover but dumping Bradley. The Lady Jays took on the Lady Buckaroos Jan. 16 and fell 52-42, which put their seasons record at 5-13 and their league mark at 0-5. The game began with the Lady Jays on the short end of a 16-9 score after one, and trailing 24-20 at halftime. They were able to stay close in the third with the score being 34-31 as the game headed into the final stanza. Tomeka Muldrow led the Lady Jays with 11 points, while teammate Vanessa Evans contributed 10. Smackover was led by Jamie Floyd, who was unstoppable with 28 points. She was followed by Tisha Floyd, who ripped the nylon or 17. The Lady Jays were eight of 12 in free throw attempts, while the Lady Buckaroos connected on 12 of 20 from the stripe. In their Jan. 19 game, the Lady Jays rebounded and dropped Bradley 43-36. Scoring for the Lady Jays in the first period was horrendous as they were only able to sink one field goal after missing two free throws. They trailed the Lady Bears 8-2 after one. However, they rallied somewhat in the second period, but still trailed 20-12 at the half. Nevada's girls warmed up in the third quarter, as they tied the game at 28-28. The Lady Jays dominated the final eight minutes to post the win. Muldrow led the Lady Jays with 17 points. Evans tickled the nets for 16. Lakeshia Moore was the high scorer for Bradley with eight. From the line, the Lady Jays were seven of 17, while the Bradley squad was a minuscule five for 18. The Lady Jays were on the road to Genoa Tuesday, and have a date with Fouke Friday night.
