Cubettes Defeat Two By Large Margins

Prescott's junior girls basketball team has been on a tear recently.

On Friday, Jan. 1, they smacked Harmony Grove 34-20.

The Cubettes opened with a bang and didn't let up. In the first period, they posted a 16-1 lead. By halftime, the score was 27-3.

Coach Cecily Butler slackened the pace by clearing her bench in the second half. At the end of three, Prescott held a 31-10 advantage and coasted for the win.

Stacy Stockton paced the Cubettes with 17 points, including a three-pointer, and eight rebounds. Traci Graham netted nine points. Cindy Greenwood, Vanessa Brzeski and Brittany Collins all scored two. Melissa Beavert and Sunshine Kelly added one each in the win. Brzeski pulled down four boards, while Graham recorded five steals and Leslie Grimes had four assists.

Gill led Harmony Grove with 11 points.

The Cubettes were three of eight from the line, while Harmony Grove connected on eight of 20 free throws.

The next game was even more lopsided as the Cubettes took on arch-rival Gurdon.

By the time the smoke cleared, the Cubettes had routed the Junior Lady Go Devils 44-18.

Prescott's girls were relentless as they opened to the tune of 14-4 and were up 24-8 at the break. The lead was pushed to 23 by the end of the third as the Cubettes were in command 9-16.

Stockton poured in 20 points, pulling down five boards. Kamori Scott netted 10 and had six rebounds. Graham scored six points in the contest, and Beavert added five, along with a team high nine boards.

Gurdon was led by Young's nine points.

The Cubettes were nine of 19 at the stripe. Gurdon was two of 12 in free throw attempts.

In an eighth grade team, Prescott took it on the chin 46-19 from Emmet.

Emmet opened with a 10-2 lead, led 25-4 at the half, and was up 36-7 after three.

Kelly, Vontrice Flemons and Kaylor Sorrells all scored four for Prescott. Gina Haynie connected on a three- pointer.

Martin scored 16 for Emmet.

In a visit to Hope, the Cubettes pulled off a 37-31 win to run their record to 14-2 on the season.

The Cubettes opened with a 13-6 lead and led 18-14 as the Lady Kittens rallied. Hope narrowed the margin to one by the end of the third at 27-26, before Prescott pulled away.

Stockton led the way with 18 points and six steals. Beavert and Scott followed with seven each, while Graham canned five. Beavert pulled down nine boards, while Scott led in rebounds with 13. Graham had four assists.

Mercer led Hope with 20.

The Cubettes connected on eight of 12 free throws, while Hope was seven of 13.

Prescott's eighth graders lost a close one to Hope, 31-26.

Hope jumped out to a 9-0 score, and held a 17-8 lead at the half. The margin remained about the same at the end of three with the score 26-18 for the Lady Kittens. The Cubettes pulled closer in the final period, but ran out of time on their comeback bid.

Jennifer Ingram led Prescott with 10 points. Graham added six, while Misty Brown had four. Flemons, Kelly and Laura Beth Williams all scored two.
