Sandra Rodgers Seeks Representative SeatPublished Wednesday, January 24, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneSandra Reyenga Rodgers of the Rocky Mound community near Hope has announced her candidacy for the District 29 State Representative seat, subject to the Democratic Primary. Rodgers is a lifetime resident of the area and grew up near the Hempstead-Nevada County line. She is currently employed as a legal secretary for her husband and as the fiscal officer for the Drug Task Force, which serves Hempstead and Nevada Counties, and four adjoining counties. She is married to Hope attorney Danny P. Rodgers, who currently is serving as prosecuting attorney for Nevada and Lafayette counties. They have two children, Damian, 16, and Whitney, 14. Her parents are Elsie Reyenga and the late James M. Reyenga of Emmet. Rodgers graduated as salutatortian from Laneburg High School and attended college at Henderson State University. Some of her special studies include drug abuse, psychological profiling and youth gangs. She served as election commissioner for Nevada County for three years, vice-chair of the Nevada County Democratic Central Committee for three years, vice-chair of the Nevada County Fair board, delegate to the Democrtatic State Convention twice, director of the Nevada County youth talent show, and fundraiser for and board member of Operation Breadbasket in Prescott. She was also the assistant director of and served as drug counselor to the Adjutant General's Drug Demand Reduction Youth Camp at Ouachita Baptist University. She attends First Baptist Church in Hope, where she and her husband serve on the youth council and teach high school youth discipleship training. "Running for State Representative has been a goal of mine for a long time," Rodgers said. "I prayed about it and with the support and encouragement of my husband and family I am thrilled to make my announcement. I think with my background and experinece I will do a great job," she said in a prepared statement. "I love people and have always enjoyed working with and for them. I believe that in order to be a good representative one should be able to meet people well but at the same time be able to take a stand on issues. "If elected I will always be available for the people of this district and mindful of their wants and needs as well as conscientious of the content of the legislation I vote on, particularly concerning the long-range effects that it will have on our cities, counties, district and state. "I plan to have an enjoyable time during this campaign," she continued. "I love to meet people and I look forward to attending all the political functions."
