It's official, sort of. The Nevada County Revenue Office has moved and is operational in its new location.

The office had been located in the Nevada County Courthouse until Friday, June 25.

Friday afternoon, the staff began the process of moving, working until 1 a.m. Saturday, June 26. Following a bit of sleep, they returned to work, getting everything moved from one office to the new building.

Monday morning, boxes were everywhere as the crew worked to put everything in place. The building still smelled of formaldehyde and paint from the walls and carpeting.

However, this didn't appear to bother the staff, as they worked diligently to get the office up and running.

Melinda "Booie" Williams has returned to Prescott as district manager. For the past two years, Williams has worked in Murfreesboro.

"This was the best weekend I've had in a long time," Williams said. "I'm back in my hometown."

Williams, as district manager, will operate the Prescott office with a staff of three, but will oversee offices in 23 counties and 90 employees.

The office is where people will go and get tags for their vehicles, get their driver's licenses renewed, real estate stamps and tags for semi trucks.

Williams and her staff will also help people weed through the maze of paperwork required to do any of the above.

With Monday being unpacking day, Williams and staff were working to find places for the files while dealing with computer techs, phone service and customers. The phones weren't operational Monday morning, but were to be turned on by Tuesday.

Along with the work of the revenue office, drivers written and road tests will be given every Wednesday morning.

Williams said while moving from the Mufreesboro office they got help from Act 309 prisoners through the Pike County Sheriff's Office.

The Revenue Office had been in Murfreesboro since June 1989. The district manager at the time was Helen Compton.

When Williams was named district manager, she was given the choice of moving to her home location. The Arkansas Department of Finance Administration approved the move and a new facility was built by Arkadelphia attorney Bill Wright.

The building is rented from Wright, not owned by the state.

Construction on the building began in Nov. 1998. Williams said an open house will be held at the office in the near future, with representatives from the ADFA to be on hand, along with local dignitaries.

The phone numbers for the Revenue Office are (870) 887-1505 and 887-1506. The fax number is 887-BOIE (2643) Williams' Internet address on the world wide web is www.booie.williams@state.ar.us
