More Jobs Announced

News from Polycarbon is better than ever.

In Thursday's meeting of the Clark County Industrial Council, President Percy Malone said the company expects to hire 120 people in its first two years of operation in the county.

Addressing the CCIC for the final time as its president, Malone said Polycarbon representative Jeff Ruzich had been in town to see how things are going at the industrial park site.

Malone said the groundwork is nearly completed inside the building, with the old soil removed and new being put in place and packed down.

Once the new soil is in place, bids will be let on getting the rest of the work done. Malone said Polycarbon's target date for being in operation is May 1, 1996.

Ruzich told Malone the need for extra workers is due to the fact the demand for the company's product is so great.

Malone said Carrier/Scroll announced the creation of 40 to 60 new jobs. He told the board members Siplast and Alumacraft have also added jobs at their plants.

There may be a decision from the Rohr people in February. Malone said he visited with representative Ed Rodinbaugh, who informed him plans are to locate a paper mill in Clark County.

Bowater, Malone said, is working with landowners to renew its option, which expired recently. Malone said the company is still interested in putting a paper mill in the county.

He said paper prices are going up and hopefully Bowater will be in expansion mode soon.

According to Malone, Bowater is seeking a five-year option for the property in question.

Changing topics, Malone said if Rohr doesn't locate in Clark County, the company has promised to help bring in an aerospace industry to replace them.

Malone said CCIC executive director Mark Moffitt had two contacts last week, with one looking for a building in the 50,000 square foot range, and the other looking for a structure between 100,000 and 120,000 square feet with access to the interstate and railroad.

"This is a good sign," Malone said, "getting calls this time of year."

A new slate of officers will be named in the council's February meeting. Six new members were added to the CCIC board of directors at the Jan. meeting, though. They are Eddie Graham, Gary Matlock, Linda Harris, Phillip Giles, Al Lynch and Millard Aud.

The CCIC's bylaws were amended to allow Malone to continue working with Polycarbon in getting documents and agreements with the various lending agencies signed.
