College World Series - Week of Feb. 12

Shane Whitlock, son of Jerry Don and Celeste Whitlock of Benton, and the grandson of Gene Whitlock and the late Willie Whitlock of Gurdon, will appear on the TV program Jeopardy February 14.

Shane competed against 1250 others in his audition for the show. Fifteen students from throughout the country were selected to compete in the college tournament.

During the week of February 12, each student will appear in one game in a quarter-final round. The winners of these five games earn the right to proceed to the semi-final round.

The students with the next four highest scores amoung the remaining 10 players also will compete in the semi-finals, which will include three games. The winner of each game will go on to a two game grand final for the championship.

Whitlock, 21, is a micro biology major at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He is a junior with a 3.92 grade point average.
