Home Burns; Dryer Blazes

Published Wednesday, January 31, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

Fire destroyed a home in Gurdon, while a faulty dryer caused a scare at Pineview Nursing Home last week.

The home of Glen and Rosie Hughes caught fire around 3:15 a.m. Monday, according to Gurdon Fire Chief Jake McBride.

He said the family was awakened by their smoke detector and was able to get out safely.

The fire, McBride said, apparently began in a wall furnace and may be electrical in nature.

The house was located off 10th Street and was a wood frame structure.

McBride said lint in a dryer apparently caught fire at the Pineview Nursing Home Monday afternoon, Jan. 22.

A damaged motor may have sparked and caused the fire, he said.

Workers at Pineview evacuated the lobby area, moving the residents to areas where there was no smoke.

There were no injuries in either fire, McBride said.
