Missing Juveniles Found In Texas

Published Wednesday, February 7, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Two young girls who had been reported missing have been found, according to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office.

Jim Westmoreland, criminal investigator with the NCSO and Prescott Police Department, said the two girls, one 11 and the other 15, were reported missing Wednesday, Jan. 31.

The investigation showed the pair had left with two Prescott men, Jason Wood, 20, and Courtney Jefferson, 22.

Their names were placed in the crime information computer, and, about 6 p.m. Thursday, a hit came back from Titus County, Texas.

Westmoreland said they got a call from the Titus County Sheriff's Office in Mt. Pleasant saying they had found the girls.

The girls' mothers made the trip to Texas and brought their children back.

Wood and Jefferson have been released without charges.

In fact, Westmoreland said no charges have been filed in the case.

Michael Sorrells, 19, of Prescott was arrested Jan. 31 while in court on another charge.

Westmoreland said Sorrells was arrested and charged for robbery and battery in the third degree.

Because of his prior offenses, he is being held in the Nevada County Jail on $10,000 bond.

On Feb. 1 at 6 p.m., Westmoreland said Anthony Ingram, 23, of Prescott, was arrested with assistance from the PPD, on charges of robbery and third degree battery.

The Sorrells and Ingram arrests stem from a Jan. 5 incident when a victim said he had been beaten and robbed at the Ingram home.

Westmoreland said the beating allegedly occurred over a drug debt.

Ingram is also being held in the Nevada County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

On a sad note, the home of Julie Stockton and her mother, was destroyed by fire Saturday evening around 7.

According to reports, the wood frame home was completely destroyed, with the Stocktons losing everything they had.

The apparent cause of the blaze may have been a wood stove, but the official cause of the fire is unknown.
