Culpepper Seeks Prosecutor's Spot

Published Wednesday, February 21, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Prescott attorney Duncan Culpepper announces his candidacy for the post of 8th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney.

The Eighth Judicial District covers Nevada, Miller, Hempstead and Lafayette counties in Southwest Arkansas.

Culpepper lives in Prescott with his wife, Debra, and daughters, Laura and Beth.

He is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He also graduated the UA School of Law.

Culpepper is a past member of the Prosecuting Attorney's Association and a current member of the American Bar Association, the Arkansas Bar Association and the Southwest Arkansas Bar Association.

Since 1979, Culpepper has been in private practice with trial experience throughout Southwest Arkansas.

He is a partner in the McKenzie, Graves, McRae and Vasser law firm, with offices in Prescott and Hope.

Currently, Culpepper is a municipal judge in Prescott, where he has served the past nine years.

He served as deputy prosecuting attorney for four years in this district as well.

Culpepper is an active member of the Prescott community. He has served as past president of the Nevada County Association of Retarded Citizens, the Prescott Rotary Club, the Nevada County Group Home and the Nevada County Cancer Society.

He works with youth, having served on the 4-H Resource and Advisory Committee and is currently a committee member for the Caddo Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

"My experience as a trial attorney, deputy prosecuting attorney and municipal judge makes me keenly aware of the problem associated with the prosecuting attorney's office," Culpepper said.

"I will be responsive, no only to law enforcement agencies throughout the district, but also to victims and their families, as well as the county judges and members of the quorum courts.

"As your prosecutor, I will be tough on criminals, but will use discretion and common sense to decide when charges should be filed and criminals brought to trial.

"Juveniles who commit crimes will be dealt with promptly and `at risk' youths will be identified and handled appropriately," he continued.

"In the next four months, I will continue to travel the district seeking your support and vote. I look forward to working for the citizens of Miller, Hempstead, Nevada and Lafayette counties as your prosecuting attorney."
