Jaycees Chapter Forms In Nevada CountyPublished Wednesday, February 21, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneA new civic/service organization has formed in Prescott and Nevada County. Actually, the organization isn't a new one, it's been around since 1920. It is, however, new to Prescott and Nevada County. It's the Jaycees, a group of area young people who are interested in developing the community, themselves and others through Jaycee programs. The group's symbol is a triangle. This represents the equal emphasis given to the development of the total person (individual development) through community service (community development) and chapter management (management development). Nationally, there are about 250,000 men and women, ages 21-39, who are Jaycees. They are members of the 4,500 different chapters of the organization. The local group is an organization of community and civic service. Not necessarily an organization to fund projects, but, rather, to do projects for the community. The members have seen projects throughout the county which need to be done. They formed the newest chapter of the Jaycees to set about doing them. Some of the projects the Jaycees have in mind locally include a political forum to meet candidates, and work days to help individuals overcome tragedy. The local Jaycee chapter is also considering projects such as city beautification and providing scholarships to single parents. According to the bylaws of the Prescott/Nevada County Jaycees, the group's purpose is to provide young people (constituting its members) leadership training and to instill civic consciousness to better their usefulness as citizens; and Civic service to promote the welfare of the community and its citizens through active, constructive projects. For those interested in joining the Prescott/Nevada County Jaycees, the annual membership dues are $40. Officers in the Jaycees include: President Tim Clarke; Management Development Vice President Chad Cornelius; Individual Development Vice President Angie Reeder; Community Development Vice President Barbara Lowdermilk; Membership Development Vice President Karen McLelland; Local/State Director, Margie Pickett; Secretary Vicky Clark; and Treasurer, Carol Tyree. Board members include Scott Marbury, Julie Stockton, Piper Vanderveer, Tammy Walker and Ricky Graham. Anyone interested in learning more about the Prescott/Nevada County Chapter of the Jaycees can contact any of these members. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
