Published Wednesday, February 21, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

Governor Jim Guy Tucker announced February 14 that 16 energy conservation grants totaling almost $600,000 have been awarded to schools, libraries and other deserving recipients across Arkansas.

Clark County is the recipient of a grant of $39,500 to install an energy efficient heating air conditioning system at the courthouse.

"These grants will provide a wide range of benefits for people across Arkansas," Tucker said of the energy program. "They will help renovate museums, heat and cool schools, and provide at-risk youth with facilities for sports and other activitieis. I am glad we can help with these worthwhile projects."

The grants, which total $586,556, were approved by the legislature's Joint Energy Committee. The money is part of Arkansas' share of a 1986 settlement of federal oil overcharge litigation. To date, Arkansas has received more than $60 million as a result of the settlement.
