Citywide Cleanup Is Slated

Published Wednesday, February 28, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

Since the burn ban is still in effect in Gurdon and Clark County, city officials decided to assist the residents by helping them get rid of their waste instead of burning.

Numerous fires have been reported since the first of the year, several of them large. The dry conditiones in January and February every year are always tender for starting large fires. This year the danger was worse, because of the dry spell that has lasted since last summer.

Even though showers have occurred off and on, the grass and brush is still dry. Therefore, the burn ban continues.

The city of Gurdon will haul off bagged leaves, twigs, grass clippings and pine straw. In addition, tree limbs will be towed away. Those larger should be cut into six-foot lenths.

All items must be put at curbside, and the leaves twigs, grass clippings and pine straw must be bagged. No paper or garbage will be picked up by the city. This is done on a regular weekly basis.

The city will not charge its citizens for the help with the cleanup, but if you have anything to be picked up, call 353-2514 before 2:00 p.m. each day. The city will be out for same-day service. No calls will be taken after 2:00 p.m. Saturday, when the free pickup ends.

Now is the time for you to clean off your lot.
