State Indoor Track Meet Is SaturdayPublished Wednesday, February 28, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe third annual ATCA State Indoor Track and Field Championship meet will be held this weekend at the University of Arkansas facility in Fayetteville. The Wolves will be competing in several events. Since the athletes have to fund the trip themselves, it is on a voluntary basis for each man. "The team will not be in full strength, but as in the past we should make a favorable showing in some areas," coach Eddie Jackson said. The Wolves are the defending state champions in the 4x800 and 4x400 relays. With John Cornelius, Cedric Flemons and Channing Butler returning on these units the Wolves hope to defend these titles if they can find one competitor to fill out the foursome. Senior John Cornelius was invited to compete two weeks ago in the U.S. Invitational Championships. He represented Prescott very well in the 400, finishing fourth out of 92 runners. "John will be one of our leaders for this year's track and field squad," Jackson said. "He will be joined by a very competitive group of juniors and a determined crew of sophomores." The Wolves will leave for Fayetteville Friday morning. The Class AA-A-B divison will begin the meet at 4:00 p.m. Finals are set for 6:30 p.m. The AAA-AAAA division will be held on Saturday. Results will be in next week's edition of the Picayune. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
