Student Honors Given At Recent Banquet

The state championship football banquet held earlier this month featured a guest speaker, a good meal, highlight tapes, but more importantly each player was recognized and honored for team and personal accomplishments.

Each football player received a certificate from the Arkansas Activities Association. They will be getting championship rings in the near future, sponsored by the Athletic Booster Club. In addition, they will also be issued a championship t-shirt, funded through the football budget.

Listed below are the individual recipients of the various category awards.

  • AA all-state certificates went to Cedric Flemons and Courtney Bryant.
  • The 1,000-yard rusher game ball went to Courtney Bryant.
  • Three-year perfect attendance honors went to John Cornelius, Brent Duke and Barrett Yates.
  • Two-year perfect attendance honors went to Sam Marlow, Steve Walker and Jamie Williams.
  • One-year perfect attendance honors went to Heath Duke, Al Johnston, Ben Jones, Jeremy Morrow, Steve Neece, Gary Stovall and Scot Graham.
  • Barrett Yates received the Rotary Leadership Award.
  • The Purple Heart award went to Braith Egger.
  • Lions Club defensive line award went to Larry Henderson.
  • Dan Ridling offensive lineman award went to Jason Koger.
  • Kiwanis Scholastic award went to John Cornelius.
  • Lions club most improved player award went to Brent Duke.
  • Cramer award went to Larry Henderson.
  • Don Muse defensive award was given to Stan Koger.
  • State championship trophies were presented to Coaches Ed Tyree, Brad Clark, Kevin Stamp and Steve Crow.
  • The Athletic Appreciation award went to Jim Gober.
  • The Junior Scholastic award went to Sam Marlow and the Sophomore Scholastic award went to Al Johnston.
  • Courtney Bryant and Barrett Yates were named to the Texarkana Gazette All-Area Team while Courtney Bryant was also named to the ANSCA All-Star selection.
  • Stan Koger, Jason Koger and John Cornelius were named to the Texarkana Gazette All-Southwest Arkansas team.
