State Sen. Mike Ross has had another honor heaped upon him.

Ross has been appointed to serve as the Fourth Congressional District Senatorial Representative on the Arkansas State Democratic Party Committee.

In accordance with party rules, the Senate President Pro Tempore, Jay Bradford, selected one senator per congressional district to the panel. This committee, according to a release from the Mike Ross For Congress Committee, is the governing body of the Democratic Party for Arkansas, with representatives from all 75 of the state's counties.

It makes the major decisions about the direction and activities of the party, the release states. The other senators selected were Gene Roebuck, from the First Congressional District, Jim Argue, Second District, and David Malone, Third District.

Ross, the release states, has proven his leadership in the Arkansas Senate during his nine years of services. He is currently the chairman of the Senate Children and Youth Committee, which conducted hearings into the allegations of abuse and neglect within the Division of Youth Services of the Arkansas Department of Human Services.

These hearings resulted in unanimous approval of a committee report of "Findings and Recommendations." It also resulted in legislation sponsored by Ross to reform the DYS during the recently adjourned legislative session.

"I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to represent the people of the Fourth Congressional District on the Democratic Party State Committee," Ross said.

"For nearly a decade I have served as a state senator. I have taken the time to meet with my constituents, helping them solve their problems and representing their values through meaningful legislation. I know what is important to the people of the Fourth District," he concluded.

Ross is a small business owner in Nevada County. Along with his wife, Holly, the two own and operate Holly's Health Mart.

Ross is also challenging incumbent Fourth Congressional District Representative Jay Dickey for his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
