Curley Wolves Run Close Second In State Meet

District 7AA finished first and second in football last December and opened the month of March with a 1-2 showing in the ATCA State Indoor Track and Field Meet at the University of Arkansas facility.

The Stamps Yellowjackets won their third consecutive title, but the Wolves gave them a run for the championship trophy. For their effort the Wolves picked up another large runner-up trophy and broke three state records in the process.

The Wolves will work on conditioning and weight training this week and will host a practice meet and enter a relay meet at DeQueen next week.

They will host a March relay meet at home on March 19 before going on spring break the following week.

Listed below are the scoring performances for the state meet held in Fayetteville.

Shot put: K. Johnson, second place.

Long jump: R. Johnson, second place.

High jump: C.D. Flemons, third place; and J. Cornelius, fifth place.

4x800 relays: P.C. Butler, C.D. Flemons, J. Morrow and J. Cornelius, first place and a state record.

55 hurdles: C. Butler, second place and R. Johnson, sixth place.

55 dash: R. Johnson, sixth place.

400 meters: J. Cornelius, first place and a state record and C. Butler, third place.

800 meters: J. Morrow, third place.

200 meters: C.D. Flemons, sixth place.

4x400 relays: J. Cornelius, C.D. Flemons, R. Johnson and C. Butler, first place and a state record.
