Trial Team Wins Case

The Prescott High School mock trial team defeated Springhill in district competition at Hope Saturday, February 24. The team will compete at the regional level in Little Rock March 16.

Team members are Jana Barfield, Lori Burke, Tiffany Franklin, Al Johnston, Valerie Leavitt, Melinda McGough and Chandra Odom.

Sponsored by the Arkansas Bar Association, the Arkansas Mock Trial competition is an educational activity that is designed to promote a better understanding of the legal process and to encourage the development of analytical and communicative skills.

Students assume the roles of lawyers and witnesses and present their side of the case in an actual courtroom setting before lawyers who served as judge and jury. This year's case deals with a personal injury.

Team coaches are Glenn Vasser, a local attorney and, June Johnson, a PHS English teacher.
