Nevada GT Students Hear About TripPublished Wednesday, March 6, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneOn Monday, February 5, Mrs. Tommie Webb, who lives in a suburb of Ft. Worth, Texas, went to Nevada School's third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade GT classes about her trip to Russia. She and her husband went with their church group from Glenview Baptist Church. She brought some Russian stacking dolls, called matryoshko, to show the class. She told about the forms thay had to fill out, how they had to trade their money in for Russian money and about the passports they had to have. They had to tell the people, who were in charge of passports, how many days they were going to stay, and if they stayed over that length of time without renewing their passports they got in trouble. A dollar in American was worth 3,000 Russian coins! Another thing the class learned from her is that one person out of all the people of Russia was elected to decide when the gas and hot water was needed. They only had hot water from early in the morning until 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. The class learned this and a lot more from Mrs. Webb, and were glad she came to visit the class.
