Burglary Arrests Made; Arson Suspect Apprehended

Published Wednesday, March 6, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

Two Southern Arkansas University students were arrested Friday, March 1, and charged with residential burglary and theft of property.

The charges, both felonies, were in connection with a theft which occurred Dec. 17, 1995.

According to Jim Westmoreland, criminal investigator with the Nevada County Sheriff's Office and Prescott Police Department, the pair allegedly burglarized a house owned by Ethel Adams of Prescott. Adams has since moved to Illinois.

Westmoreland said Raymond E. Page, 19, of Prescott, and Dale Rekow, 22, of Pine Bluff, were arrested after some of the stolen property turned up in Magnolia pawn shops.

These items include a console television, a portable television and a videocassette recorder.

He said the pair entered the home through the front door and took these and other items.

Both suspects are currently out on bond. Residential burglary and theft of property are class B felonies, punishable by imprisonment in penitentiary from 5 to 20 years.

At the invitation of Emmet and Nevada school personnel, NCSO Sheriff Harold Vines, deputy Wally Hulan and K-9 officer Wayne Kisselburg, along with Narco, the department's drug dog, searched for drugs.

Lockers were worked in both schools Friday, with Narco hitting on two in each school. However, no drugs were found in any of the lockers. Narco also responded to a vehicle in the Nevada parking lot.

However, Vines said the response only means drugs had been present at these locations at some time. He said the dog's reaction does not imply guilt or that this particular student has or uses drugs.

Officers with the PPD responded to a domestic disturbance call Friday night at East Second Street.

When they arrived, Antonia Flemons, 19, of Prescott, allegedly became argumentative and mouthy. The officers, Sgt. Tyrone Butler and Joey Grayson, ran Flemons through NCIC and learned there were warrants outstanding on him for failure to appear in court and failure to comply with court orders.

He was arrested on these two warrants and taken to the Nevada County Jail.

The two officers had searched Flemons for weapons, but not for drugs.

While at the jail, the suspect allegedly attempted to pass the drugs to another inmate, but was caught.

Officers found four individually wrapped plastic bags containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. Additionally, drug paraphernalia was found on Flemons.

He was then charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities are holding John Wood, 45, in jail on charges of first degree terroristic threatening, which is a felony offense.

According to Westmoreland, Wood went from a mental health facility in another county to the Nevada County Jail.

Wood had been making threats against members of his family, who filed the complaint against him.

Because of his past history of making threats and violence, he was picked up and will undergo a mental screening to see if he is competent to stand trial on the terroristic threatening charges.

First degree terroristic threatening is a class D felony, punishable by up to six years in prison.

A warrant has been issued on an arson suspect in connection with the burning of a mobile home at 635 Hatley Street Feb. 24.

Westmoreland said the call on the fire came in at about 11:15 p.m. Feb. 24. When firemen arrived, the trailer and a nearby vehicle were burning.

At the time, the trailer was being rented by James Walker. When the fire was started, two people were inside the mobile home.

Apparently, the female inside had recently broken up with the arson suspect, and was dating Walker.

Both witnesses reported hearing a noise, then seeing flames. The two also told officers they saw the suspect running from the scene at the time.

Westmoreland said the suspect was identified as her ex-boyfriend, who was reportedly upset because of the breakup.
