Classy Moments

First, let me say that I am so sorry for not getting our article in the last issue of the Gurdon Times. I just allowed `time' to get ahead of me. Thanks for the calls letting us know you missed our news. We are so excited that so many of you are reading our Classy Moments and calling the school to let us know how much you look forward to each article.

We have the Clark County Spelling Bee champion at GMS. Whitney Hogue, an eighth grade student, won first place. We are so proud of her. Whitney is the daughter of Jimmy and Linda Gayle Hogue of Gurdon, and big sister to brother Jessie.

Mrs. Clingan was a member of the COE evaluation team that went to Ola High School. It was certainly a learning experience for her, as she works with the COE at GMS.

Tuesday, February 20, the GMS faculty met for two hours after school working on the COE planning program. The committees were very busy making plans of improvement in various areas for the next five years. There is still work to be done, but this reporter is very proud to be a member of the team that has such confidence and enthusiasm in making our school one of which the students, parents and community will be proud.

Our students seem to be right at home in their new environment. Although there are many disadvantages, the facility is much better than the one we left. Several students are so eager to get to school they arrive too early, as they are not to be in the building until 7:45.

Friday, March 8, ends the third nine-week grading period. The parent- teacher conferences will be conducted Thursday, March 14, from 2:30 until 7:00 p.m. Parents may obtain their child's report card at that time. We look forward to the parents visiting with the teachers concerning their child's achievements in various classes.

The eighth grade history students have really surprised themselves. They have been able to recite all 42 presidents in the order of their terms. (And they didn't think they could!) To top that, they have been able to spell all names correctly. Way to Go!!
