GMS Student Suspended For Drugs

Published Wednesday, March 6, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

A Gurdon Middle School student has been suspended from school until a special hearing can be held.

According to Gurdon City Marshal David Childres, the Gurdon Police Department was called by school officials after a marijuana cigarette was found on a student, Thursday, Feb. 29.

Officer Frank Plasek went to GMS, picked the student up and brought the student to the GPD.

The student was then turned over to Clark County's juvenile services . The student will now have to appear before a judge in juvenile court, with the judge deciding the punishment.

Childres said no fine has been levied in the case yet. "All we did was take the report and send the student to juvenile services," he said.

Jeff Alexander, GMS principal, said a special hearing will be called concerning the incident. This hearing, he said, will be closed to the public to protect the student involved.

"I hope we can get this child straightened out and off marijuana," Alexander said. "That's my only concern."
