The Work Of EHC GivenPublished Wednesday, July 7, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesBARBARA A. HOLT, Ph.D. CLARK COUNTY EXTENSION AGENT FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES COOPERATIVE EXTENSION SERVICE The Clark County Fair pageant. Out'n Back Kitchen at the County Fair. The Holiday Tour of Homes. Did you ever wonder who makes these events a success? The Extension Homemakers, that''s who. And that's not all they do. These activities are just their major fund-raisers. The Extension Homemakers also provide community service and sponsor educational events. In just the past year alone, Clark County Extension Homemakers Clubs (EHC) have made dozens of teaching dolls for patients at the Arkansas Children's Hospital. They sewed turbans for cancer patients who lose their hair, because of radiation treatments. The members recognized teachers and other school personnel in the Gurdon School District with special treats. They baked birthday cakes each month for people in the nursing home. They have sewed, knitted and crocheted tiny garments for premature babies. EHC members have made valuable contributions to other services oriented groups in the community. Extension homemakers have used grants from the Clark County Quorum Court and the state energy commission to improve the EHC kitchen at the fairgrounds. This facility is used for meetings of 4-H clubs, the fair board and other groups in the community. Each month the Extension Homemakers Council educational leaders provide training for club leaders so they can return to their clubs with informative programs for their members. Over the past year EHC has sponsored educational programs on women's health and on home care for the elderly that were open to the public. Each month they teach craft workshops for members and anyone else who is interested. An important part of Extension Homemakers is social. Ten clubs meet every month around the county, not only to improve their local communities and learn something new and useful, but to enjoy one another's company, and to have fun. Membership is open to all eligible persons. If you want to get involved in Extension Homemakers, check out their meeting times below and contact a club president to learn where the next meeting will take place:
