We Get Letters

To the Editor:

As members of the Beirne Volunteer Fire Department and residents of Beirne, we would like to inform the Mayor of Gurdon (Rick Smith) that we would appreciate it very much if he would get his facts straight before talking to the press.

The people of Beirne and especially the members of the fire department have worked very hard to improve the performance of our fire department and as of July 1, 1998, our rating was raised from a 10 to 9. We are very proud of this accomplishment and would appreciate some recognition from the Mayor.

Twice he has stated in the paper that Beirne has a rating of 10. We know he has other things on his mind and this may seem like no big deal to him, but it is a big deal to the people of Beirne.
