DeQueen Relays Thursday

After coming off a state runner-up indoor track and field meet the 1996 Wolves were scheduled to open the outdoor season with a practice meet on Tuesday of last week.

"Since the Wolverettes did such a great job and got into the basketball state playoffs, they were not prepared to compete," coach Eddie Jackson said. "We also were waiting on some field event equipment and the weather forecast was for storms. For all of the above reasons we cancelled our first practice meet of the year," he said

The Wolves and Wolverettes were scheduled to host their last practice meet this past Tuesday and are scheduled to compete in the Leadership Relays at DeQueen on Thursday. "We have not competed in this meet in several years," Jackson said, "but they have upgraded their field event areas and we needed an early March relay meet for competition."

PHS is adding another new event which is scheduled for next week, according to Jackson. "The Prescott Relays is a new meet that was established to give our athletes a chance to compete at home on our new facility in the month of March," he said.

"Since the schools in Arkansas cannot (or won't) get together on spring break dates, area schools are forced to do the best they can on spring sports scheduling, Jackson said. "This meet basically is for any classification that is not on spring break next week."

This event should not be confused with the annual Prescott Merchants Relays. That classic event will be held on April 18, which concludes the relay season before teams enter their district meets. "Information about sponsorship for the merchants relays will be coming in a couple of weeks," Jackson said.

"Make plans to see the Wolves and Wolverettes in some early season track and field action," he encouraged.
