The bike tour will go from Little Rock to Hot Springs and back and will take place on May 4-5. Ordinary individuals can make a difference in the fight for cleaner air," said Phillip Perry, special events coordinator. "Air pollution contributes to lung disease, which is the third leading cause of death in America. The 1996 Clean Air Challenge is the perfect opportunity for people to enjoy themselves while becoming involved and better informed about the Lung Association's clean air efforts." The two-day, 120-mile tour is a fun and scenic ride that will appeal to anyone who can ride a bike. Food, lodging and entertainment is provided for each cyclist on the tour. Rest stops, set up every 10-12 miles along the route, will be stocked with fresh fruit, high energy snacks, water and other refreshments. Cyclists will be supported by a friendly staff of trained volunteers, communication experts, SAGs, massage therapists, medical personnel and law enforcement support. Upon reaching Hot Springs, riders will enjoy food and entertainment at the Majestic Hotel. After a good night's rest, cyclists will ride back to Little Rock, where a celebration barbecue awaits. The 1996 Clean Air Challenge will include the support of the business community in the fight for clean air. "We would love to see companies become involved in the fight against lung disease and air pollution by sponsoring a Clean Air Challenge team. It's a wonderful morale-building opportunity for employees," said Perry. A team consists of three or more cyclists and will receive a complimentary photo plus qualify for special prizes. The team raising the most money will be awarded the championship trophy. Other prizes, including free airline tickets from American Airlines, will be awarded for the top indiviudal fundraiser.
