OBU Recital Planned

The division of music of the Bernice Young Jones School of Fine Arts at Ouachita Baptist University will present Dr. Stephen Garner, assistant professor of music, in a faculty recital on Thursday, September 9, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center.

Barbara Richards of Hot Springs will serve as pianist for the recital.

The public is invited to attend the performance. There is no admission charge.

The program will include: "If Music Be the Food of Love," "What Shall I do to Show How Much I Love Her?" "We Sing to Him," and "Lord, What is Man?" by Henry Purcell; "Weep You No More," "My Life's Delight,""Damask Roses," and "Fair House of Joy" by Roger Quilter; "L'Invitation au Voyage," and "Chanson Triste" by Henri Duparc; "Claire de lune" and "Nell" by Gabriel Faure; and "Sei mir gegursst" and "Auf dem Wasser zu Singen" by Franz Schubert.

Garner will also preform: "Adelaide" by Ludwig van Beethoven; "How Do I Love Thee?" "Why So Pale and Wan, Fond Lover?" "After Love," and "Fade, Vision Bright" by Norman Dello Joio; and "Office Seekers," "Words," and "Uncle Ezra's Revenge" by Donald E. Winters.

Garner holds a bachelor of music degree in church music from William Carey (Miss.) College, a master of church music degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and a doctor of musical arts degree in church music from Southwestern.

He is a member of the Hymn Society of the United States and Canada and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He has been honored by being recognized in the International Who's Who in Music and Outstanding Young Men of America.

Garner joined the Ouachita faculty in 1990.
