Board Approved New Equipment At Minnesota PlantPublished Wednesday, March 13, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayunePotlatch Corporation's board of directors approved the expenditure of $118 million for a new recovery boiler, turbine generator and associated equipment in the company's pulp mill in Cloquet, Minnesota. Construction will begin in May 1996 and will be completed on the third quarter of 1998. The installation of the recovery boiler and turbine generator are part of a $500 million-plus modernization and expansion of the Cloquet mill, which produces pulp for the company's coated printing paper mills in Minnesota. The modernization project started in 1992 and is scheduled for completion in 2000. "The modernized and expanded mill will reduce our pulp costs by 25 percent at this mill and will allow us to improve the quality and consistency of our pulp," said John Richards, Potlatch's chairman and chief executive officer.
