Willisville Area To Get New RoadPublished Wednesday, March 20, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneResidents in Willisville will be getting a new road in the near future. According to Nevada County Judge John Barham, the county is receiving a 90-10 matching state grant from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department for $269,919.99. He said this grant was approved for adding four inches of base material and double sealing the surface of County Road 8 near Willisville. The firm of Perritt and Vickers of Magnolia has been awarded the contract based on their low bid of $269,919.99. In all, six bids were submitted for the project. Barham said work on the project will begin as soon as the paperwork is completed, but should be no later than mid-April or early March. He said the construction company has 30 working days to complete the job in. The project will see 3.185 miles of road asphalted. Barham said the county's gravel roads are in good shape for this time of year. He said the county road crews have been able to haul gravel all winter with no let up. One problem, he said, Friday, is it's almost getting to be too dry to do any blade work now. However, the weekend's rains may have helped this situation. Road crews repaired three of the worst bridges in the county in 1995, and Barham said there is more work to be done this summer. The judge said his crews won't start on any bridge work until after spring ends to see how the weather situation plays out. However, he said, there are no major structures to be repaired so far this year. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
