Potter Seeks Marshall's Job

Published Wednesday, March 20, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

Tommy Potter, a lifelong resident, has announced his candidacy for Gurdon City Marshall in the upcoming election.

Potter said he has proven his leadership capabilities and community devotion by having coached two Little League champion teams, and being a member of the Community Development and Entertainment Club for 15 years. He co-founded South Clark County Jaycees (now the number four chapter in the state), founded the Head Start Program in Gurdon, served on the Postal Advisory Council for Gurdon and has served on federal juries and is a member of First baptist Church.

He said he would like work toward a better security for Gurdon through: community watch program; fair and just policy to stop all law offenders not just a select few; analyze the budget to see why it has jumped from $93,000 to $133,000 in three years; institute community service program for teens in trouble; work with city to highlight abandoned buildings now used for crack houses, attend Civil Defense meetings; establish higher code of ethics for officers; and work for proactive law force instead of reactive one we now have. He cited an "ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
