Rotarians Are Sought For Bangladesh TripPublished Wednesday, March 27, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesRotary Clubs in the central and southern Arkansas district of Rotary International are seeking outstanding business and professional people to visit Bangladesh from Dec. 8, 1996 to Jan. 7, 1997, through the Group Study Exchange Program of the Rotary Foundation. The program strives to improve international understanding by enabling people from different countries to learn from each other on a personal level. The awards involve exchanging teams of business and professional persons for four to six week visits. While abroad, team members stay with Rotarians to observe their host's way of life and to study the nation's economic, social and cultural characteristics through travel and discussions within participating Rotary districts. Team members also have the opportunity to meet their professional counterparts. Previous GSE programs have included New Zeland, India, Australia, France, the former Soviet Union, Great Britain, Sweden, Germany, Japan, the Phillipines, Argentina and Brazil. More than 27,000 people from more than 100 countries have participated in the GSE program since its inception in 1965. The Rotary Foundation, which has spent more than $46 million on the programs, is supported voluntarily by Rotarians and others in 150 countries and 35 geographical areas in which nearly 27,000 Rotary clubs are located. The Foundation's objective is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different nations through humanitarian and educational programs.
