GPS Awarded $1,000 GrantPublished Wednesday, March 27, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesThe Arkansas Department of Education has awarded a grant to Mrs. Linda Huland and Mrs. Pam Runyan of the Gurdon Primary School to implement Family Math, Science and Literacy nights. The grant of $1,000 is available for sponsoring this community outreach program in grades first through fourth. The Family Math, Science and Literacy programs help parents learn how to help children become better problem solvers. It informs parents about the role of math and science in their children's future; provide non-threatening enviorments through Family Math/Science/Literacy classes where parents and children engage in math, science and reading activities together. Family Math, Science and Literacy supplement and encourage parents to discuss their children's mathematiacs, science and reading programs with their children. Mrs. Hulan and Mrs. Runyan have taught five classes on Monday nights. The units taught were the Writer's Workshop, Measurement and Operations and Insects and Spiders. The final class will be Monday night, April 1, at 7:00 at the Gurdon Primary School cafeteria. The unit for the evening will be sound. All parents with their children of grades first through fourth are encouraged to attend the last Family Math, Science and Literacy night.
