Price Of Times Going Up First Of AprilPublished Wednesday, March 27, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesDue to continued increases in newsprint the past year, the publishers of The Gurdon Times are forced to increase the single copy price to 50 cents beginning April 1, 1996. "Newsprint continues to rise," John Ragsdale, co-publisher, said, "and, the printers keep passing along the increases to us, apparently with a hefty mark-up. We have tried to hold down costs and to absorb the increase, but now the price must be increased." Printing costs have nearly doubled for The Times in the past 12 months due to the newsprint increases. In addition to the printer going up on its rates, they also pass on a newsprint adjustment each month. Prices for The Times being mailed out of state will also increase, Ragsdale said. "This is due mainly to the increase of postal rates for second class matter last fall," he said. The farther the paper is delivered from Gurdon, the more the postage is. The new rate for out-of-state subscribers will be $20 per year beginning April 1, 1996. Anyone wishing to renew their subscription before April 1 may do so for up to two years.
