Curley Wolves Squads Run Thursday

Published Wednesday, April 3, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

After an extended spring break, the Wolves track and field squad will be back in competition in the Doc Walker Hog Relays at Texarkana on Thursday.

Arkansas High had its track resurfaced this past summer and with favorable weather this should prove to be a highly competitive meet, according to Eddie Jackson, PHS track coach.

The Wolves did not get a great deal accomplished in March because of the cold weather, meet cancellations, conflicts in scheduling and various other factors.

However, Prescott did host one practice meet, finished as runner-up in the De Queen Relays and won the Prescott "ice box" relays on March 14. A few individuals were planning on competing in the Southwest Classic at Nashville last week, but the unseasonable cold weather changed their mind, Jackson said.

The outdoor season now comes down to three weeks of relay meets to qualify for state and to prepare for the conference meet on April 23.

After the Hog Relays, some younger athletes will compete at Genoa Central on Saturday.

The squad will travel to Nashville on April 11 for the Scrapper Relays, SAU on the 16th and will be at home for the show meet of Southwest Arkansas on April 18 (Thursday) with the Prescott Merchants Relays.

The 7AA Conference meet (four divisons) will be held at Nashville on April 23 and 25.

The Class AA state track and field championship will be held at Heber Springs on May 4.
