City Awards ContractPublished Wednesday, April 3, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneContracts to get water to the newly annexed area of Prescott were awarded Thursday, March 28. The Prescott City Council, meeting in the second special session of the week, awarded the water contract to the 4M Construction Co, of Arkadelphia. Its contract went for $230,015.65. 4M will be responsible for putting the water line in place. According to Prescott Mayor Howard Taylor, G&S Trenching, also of Arkadelphia, got the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission's portion of the contract to install the water system. This segment of the contract went for $103,605. G&S will be responsible for installing all hydrants and boring 400 linear feet under Interstate 30. Under the agreement, G&S will also instal 12-inch water lines, furnish and install all hydrants, including six- inch gate valves, blocking and drain rock. The company will also have to furnish and install 12-inch water main fittings, including all trench, excavation, laying, bedding, blocking, tracer wire and backfilling of dirtwork. G&S also obligated itself to tying into the existing eight-inch mains with eight-inch tapping sleeves and valves, along with installing eight- and 12-inch gate valves. The company is also responsible for testing and sterilizing the system once construction's completed. 4M's contractual duties include: furnishing and installing three-inch water mains and fittings, including all dirt work involved; tying into the new eight-inch main with three-inch tapping sleeves and valves; furnishing and installing all short side connections; putting in fire hydrant assemblies, including six-inch gate valves, blocking and drain rock; and installing all 12-inch gate valves including valve boxes and blocking. Additionally, 4M agreed to furnish and install eight-inch water mains and fittings, including all dirt work and sterilization; dry bore and encase six-inch sewer force mains inside a 12-inch by 375-inch encasement; and furnish and install two-inch blow off valves. This work will be paid for from monies from the Economic Development Administration's grant. In other business, the council approved the purchase of a new bucket truck from Combatell Distributing of North Little Rock. The truck will cost $99,000.
