Childres Seeks Re-election

Published Wednesday, April 3, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

David Childres has announced his candidacy for reelection for Gurdon City Marshal. He has been the city marshall for 5 years.

Childres is a graduate of the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy, Drug Enforcement Agency School (DEC), and he is a certified law enforcement officer with the state of Arkansas. He holds numerous certificates from other schools dealing with gang awareness, marijuana eradication and detection.

He is a certified spotter for marijuana with the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency and Childres is a certified Emergency Medical Technician. He managed the Gurdon Ambulance Services until Baptist Medical Center took over. He has been a police officer for 19 years and all but three have been with the Gurdon Police Department.

When Childres became city marshal in 1991 there were only three police officers in Gurdon. Now there are four full-time and three part-time. On the weekends there are three patrol cars on the streets.

In making his announcement he states, "I know you can't please everyone, but we try to be fair with everybody, not just a select few."

Childres cited several cases and listed names of criminals he and his officers have arrested during the past several months. Many have been sentenced; some were on parole and sent back to the Arkansas Department of Corrections; and some arrests netted the city revenues from money confiscated.

"These people are serving their time as of now," he said. There are several more who caused us the most problems the last 8 months."

Because of his record he believes he the most qualified for the position.

"We haven't been putting much in the local paper lately but here is a list of subject who have committed crimes in Gurdon and was arrested in Gurdon by the police department since last fall: Travis Hall, agravaited robbery, battery 1st, sentenced to Arkansas Department of Correction, L.E.
