Classy Moments from GMSPublished Wednesday, April 10, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesThe Gurdon Middle School was host to a millage rally Monday, April 1. Mr. Bobby Smithson, superintendent of schools, explained the involvement in a millage increase to be for the purpose of the construction and furnishings of new middle school to be located near the new high school on Highway 67 South. Several questions were asked. Encouragement and enthusiasm were expressed. Student Council officers Whitney Hogue and Andrew Wilson registered the guests. Jane Lucas, Rotary District Governor, had over 400 items from various places around the world displayed in our media center for all students to view. Lucas explained how she obtained the items at the Rotary Governor's International Convention. Students were amazed and most entertained by the presentation. Students interested in being a candidate for Student Council officers and Representatives are busy meeting the requirements. The Junior Beta Club will be conducting a basketball tournament April 15th and 16th at the GMS gym. The fifth and sixth grade students' games will begin at 12:15 on the 15th. The seventh and eighth grade students' games will begin at 1:40. The admission is 50 cents. Also, there will be a concession stand. Please come and support the Junior Beta Club, as this is a fundraiser for our club. We are busy looking for ways and "means" to help make our campus more attractive.
