Highway Dept., County To Improve Road

Published Wednesday, April 10, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

The Arkansas State Highway Commission has opened bids for a project to improve a Nevada County road, according to Highway Commission chairman, L.W. `Bill' Clark of Little Rock and Nevada County Judge John Barham.

The project will pave a 3.2-mile section of County Road 8 from the Columbia County line to the north.

Perritt and Vickers, Inc. of Magnolia was awarded a $262,919.99 contract for the work. The project is expected to be complete by late spring.

John M. Lipton of Warren, a member of the commission, noted that the project is funded through the State Aid Road Program established by the legislature and administered by the State Aid Division of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. This program provides up to $13 million annually from the state motor fuels tax to assist counties with projects of their choosing on the county road system.

Lipton said construction could begin in six to eight weeks, weather permitting.
