PHS Tennis Team Wins Matches Over GurdonPublished Wednesday, April 10, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayunePrescott's tennis team has been busy, though unsuccessful, of late. On April 2, the Wolves tangled with the Hope Bobcats with the boys losing all six matches, and the girls won one of their singles matches. However, the girls dropped their three double's matches. Ryan Tracewitz went down to Eady 8-2 in his match, while Sammy Lowdermilk fell 8-2 to Green. Ryan Ellis lost 8-1 and Matthews was blanked 8-0 in singles. Doubles matches saw Tracewitz and Lowdermilk go down 8-2 to Burke and Wallace. Ellis and Matthews faltered 8-4 to Bullard and Smith. In girl's singles, Stacy Stockton whipped Kirchhoff 8-2, while Laura Culpepper fell 8-6 to Darling. Leslie Grimes went down 8-6 to Tullis and Jana Barfield was blanked 8-0 to Byers. Doubles saw Stockton-Barfield lost 8-3 to Kirchhoff-Darling. Cornelius-Culpepper lost 8-2 to Tullis-Byers, with Jessica Hildebrand and Grimes losing to Byrne-Gilbert 8-2 as well. On April 3, the Wolves traveled to Nashville. The boys dropped their singles matches but won the lone doubles match. The girls won two of five singles contests, but lost their three doubles matches. Tracewitz went down to Stuard 8-1, while Lowdermilk lost 8-5 to McBride and Ellis fell to Chau 8-1. The duo of Tracewitz-Lowdermilk beat Erskine-Tollett 8-1 in doubles. Stockton lost her first match of the year to Harris in a 6-4 match. Kristy Martin went down 6-3 to Ramage, while Culpepper recorded a 6-3 win over Thomas. Cornwall beat Kelli Ashbrook 6-0 and Grimes returned the favor to Hosoya 6-0. Cornwell-Harris beat Cox-Culpepper 6-0 in doubles. Thomas-Ramage handled Barfield-Kaci Ammons 6-2 and Clark-Kemp dropped Jesna Cornelius and Tamara Marlar 6-3. It was a different situation when the Wolves played Gurdon Thursday, April 4. The boys took all three singles matches but lost their doubles match, while the girls won two of three singles matches and all three doubles matches. Tracewitz clipped Jared Smith 8-6, while Lowdermilk doubled Cullan Conley 8-4. Ellis dropped John Anderson 8-5. Griffin and Brian McGalliard dumped Tracewitz-Lowdermilk 8-4 in doubles. Stockton regained her form on the court by blasting Kadra Clark 8-0. Culpepper followed suit by whipping Elizabeth Shephard 8-0 as well. Wanda Cornish, though, dropped Ashbrook 8-1. In doubles, Martin-Ammons dropped Allen-Cornish 9-8, winning the tiebreaker 7-4. Cornelius-Marlar posted an 8-6 win over Clark-Robertson and Hildebrand-Grimes thrashed Cox-Ward 8-1.
