Cancer Crusade BeginsPublished Wednesday, April 17, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneNevada County Chapter of American Cancer Society began its annual crusade Saturday with a kick-off meeting at Central Baptist Church. Chairman Lanora Dalrymple distributed literature to volunteers who are calling on homes and businesses for support of American Cancer Society projects. Over 100 workers will distribute literature on cancer help and ask for public support. In Arkansas a reported 8,311 cancer patients received one or more services this past year. The 10th anniversary of Cancer Camp marked camping experience to help children through a difficult illness. An expansion of breast cancer awareness month in October reached women of all ages, encouraging breast exams and care. The Great American Smokeout involved Arkansans in hometowns. Memorials and honor gifts went to research, detection and care of cancer patients. Dr. Michael Young of Prescott represents Nevada County on the state cancer board.
