OBU Student Retreat August 1-3Published Wednesday, July 14, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesThe admissions counseling office at Ouachita Baptist University (OBU) will be the host for the school's eighth annual new student retreat to be held August 1-3 on the OBU campus. "The new student retreat is a unique Ouachita experience which allows incoming students to get to know other members of the incoming freshman class," Kathy Berry, director of admissions counseling, said. "Students spend time in the residence halls, in small family groups and in a variety of other activities to help them get a good start at Ouachita." Sessions will be held in Evans Student Center, the Roy and Christine Sturgis Physical Education Center, Tiger Den and Mabee Fine Arts Center. DeGray Lake will also be the site of a picnic for the new students. Ouachita administrative staff members, including President Dr. Andrew Westmoreland, along with faculty members will work alongside members of the admissions counseling office in the conduct of the retreat. A concert for the new students assembly will be held on Monday night of the retreat, featuring a Ouachita student led group coordinated by Candace Sharp, a junior instrumental music education major from Mesquite, Texas. The cost of the retreat is $70 that includes lodging, food, t-shirt and all new student retreat activities.
