Volleyball Camp Set

Published Wednesday, July 14, 1999 in the Gurdon Times

There will be a senior girls volleyball camp at Gurdon High School July 19-21 at 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All girls in grades 10-12 interested in participating in the upcoming volleyball season should attend this clinic.

Shane Stricklin, head volleyball coach at Hooks (Texas) High School, will be instructing the camp.

Stricklin earned his coaching degree at Henderson State University, where he was a student assistant for two years and an assistant coach with the volleyball team for one year before moving to Hooks. This summer he has held two clinics at HSU and he has just returned form coaching a clinic in Grand Prairie, Texas.

During the clinic, athletes will receive instruction on the basic skills required in the game of volleyball. The cost of the clinic is $30 per athlete. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt and refreshments will be provided daily.

Campers are responsible for transportation to and from the clinic, which will be held in the gym at the new high school. Campers are also responsible for lunch, which they may bring with them daily. They will be allowed to leave campus for lunch if they have an approved permission slip. There will, however, be no car pooling of athletes to and from town.

All campers should come to the clinic properly dressed (shorts, t-shirts and clean tennis shoes). No outside shoes will be allowed on the gym floor.

All girls interested in attending the clinic should contact Tammy Alexander at 353-4677 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. no later than July 15.
