Cleanup Continues At High School

Published Wednesday, April 17, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

What do the Oklahoma City bombing, the World Trade Center bombing and the Prescott High School fire have in common?

ServiceMaster is on the job.

While the April 1 fire at Prescott High Schools seems petty compared to the two bombings, the type of cleanup work being done is typical according to Brad Key, regional operations manager for the company.

Key, who also worked the other two disasters, told the board at its special meeting last Tuesday, April 9, there were no small disasters as far as his company was concerned.

He told the board exactly how ServiceMaster would clean the facility and if it was not clean enough, they would recapsulate or repaint the interior of the structure.

Key told board members his crews would work from the band room to the west and clean from the top beams to the floor.

Crews will destroy all ceiling tiles and clean the ceiling beams before coating with a stain block to kill odors.

In addition books and other items from the high school library (media center) have been loaded up and carried to the regional office in Memphis to be cleaned at this facility.

He said the media center would be returned to its exact location. He did express some doubts if the carpets could be returned to their pre-loss condition.

ServiceMaster crews will also work in the auditorium, removing a few seats to be transported to their Memphis location also, to see if they can be cleaned.

He said the crews could be finished cleaning in three to four weeks (of the meeting time), and classes could move back into them just as soon as they through (see related article).

ServiceMaster was put on the job by the district's insurance company, USF&G.

USF&G adjuster Jim Thomas told the board at the meeting they had worked a lot with ServiceMaster and knew they were the best company for the job.
