Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, April 17, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesAll of the petitions for officers and representatives for Student Council elections have been checked and completed. Sponsor of Student Council, Mrs. Clingan, met with candidates and explained the rules of compaigning and speech making procedures. All candidates must make a campaign speech before the student body at the Assembly before election day. The campaign is a week long. If you visit our school next week, be prepared to see several posters! Good luck to each one of the candidates. We had Spring Cleaning, better know as Clean Out Locker Day! You would have had to seen it to believe it! Students found papers, pencils, library books, and many other items that they thought were missing. When they had cleaned out the crinkled, torn, papers that due dates had past by weeks, and other unidentifiable items, they were very proud of the results. Needless to say, there were several garbage bags full to show their hard work. We have all been busy preparing for the visit of the COE evaluation team to visit with us to check on the work we have been busy with and to advise us of anything we need to do to meet our goals. Jr. High Quize Bowl tryouts were conducted and several students from grades 7, 8, and 9 attended. A team can only have four members and an alternate. Mrs. Downey, GT Teacher, assisted Mrs. Clingan, sponsor, with the tryouts. Limiting a team to four was a very difficult task. Team members are Martin Downey, Whitney Hogue, and Andrew Wilson, students of the 8th grade, and B.J. Griffin, a 9th grader. Flint King, 9th grader, is the alternate. These students will be putting in several hours of practice between now and the competition to be held May 2. Mrs. Bullard, 7th and 8th grade Math teacher, attended her son's graduation from Marine Boot Camp at Camp Pendleton, California. Of course she was a very proud momm. Mmr. Reece, 7th and 8th grade Science teacher, managed to get the old letters off of the building (Gurdon High School). We are anxious to get new ones of Gurdon Middle School in their place. We are doing our best to show the pride we have for our school and take care of it. Although it is a much better educational environment than where we were, it is very evident that it has served its purpose very well. A new Middle School can become a reality. Again, we thank you the people of our school community for your support, your interest, and your concern for us. With your continued help, and our dedication, we will continue to make those Classy Moments at GMS. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
