Community NewsJerine HatleyPublished Wednesday, July 14, 1999 in the Gurdon Times Men's and women's conference on family and evangelism will be held July 22-24 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Clair Baptist Church in Burtsell. Special guests will be Rev. and Sis. Arnold Smith and Rev. and Sis. Keith B. Beard of Illinois, Sis. Linda Clark of Hope, Sis. Madonna Hayes of Prescott, Bro. Steve Jackson, Bro. Vernell Jones, Rev. and Sis C.W. Harris of Section One of S.W.D.A. and Bro. Rosboro Hendrix of S.W.D.A., layman and national layman and others. Everyone and all churches are welcome. Rev. L.B. Beard, pastor. Annual homecoming will be Sunday, July 18, at 2:30 p.m. at Providence A.M.E. Church in the Kansas community. Special guest will be New Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Gurdon, Rev. Quintin Radford, pastor and speaker. Women's conference will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Okolona Friday, July 30, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 31, at 8:00 a.m. for a prayer breakfast. Theme will be 'Women Empowered for War in a New Millennium.' Everyone is welcome. You may contact Lola Hatley at 353-6283 for more information. Sis. Rose Dixon, president, Sis. Dianne Hatley, vice president, and Rev. Rufus R. Hatley, pastor. The southwest district youth revival will conclude tonight at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Malvern. Services begin at 7:00. Rev. Frank Newborn, pastor. Southwest district public speaking will be July 15 at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Arkadelphia. Rev. Ron Browning, pastor. Everyone and all churches are welcome to attend. The director will be Sis. Tressia Keaton. Dr. C. K. Yarber, moderator. The Quarles and Joe families reunion was held Saturday, July 3, at the home of Birdie Quarles of Smithton community. Some of her out-of-town visitors were brothers R.D. Joe and Lauren Joe of Atwater, Calif.; her daughter, Annie Mae Phifer of Arizona; her son, Lonnie Quarles of Plano, Texas; her sister, Cleo Joe, and her family; Lawrence Green and a friend; Mr. and Mrs. James Green of Camden; Eddie Quarles and son of Rosston; Lee Andrew Quarles of Lansing, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Morris of Little Rock; Ollie Faye Richardson of Antoine; Lula Carol and Mary Williams of Malvern; the Morris family; Tip Anderson and his family of Prescott; and many other local relatives. Ella Burton of Chicago, Ill., is here visiting her son, Winfred Burton, and her grandchildren. She is also visiting with her brother, Big Winfred Burton, her sister, Jerime Hatley of Gurdon, and other relatives and close friends. While here, she attended the Burton reunion, which was held in Prescott, Relatives from as far away as Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas, Illinois, California, New York and Virginia were there, as well as those from Camden and Arkadelphia. Everyone enjoyed themselves very much on July 7-11. Crica Mays and daughter of Los Angeles, Calif., have returned to her home after visiting her parents, Fred and Geneva Shells, her brother, Bryon, and Alicia Shells of Little Rock, her grandmother, Valree Smith of Gurdon and other relatives and friends in Marianna and surrounding areas. Sunday, July 25, at 8:00 a.m. at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Gurdon Rev. Quintin Radford, pastor, will be holding their morning worship. There will be no other services that day.
