Walk-A-Thon Set For April 19

Published Wednesday, April 17, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

Gurdon's Annual Miles for Meals Walk-a-Thon Fundraiser will be held April 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gurdon Sr. Adult Center.

Funds raised will benefit the Local Home Delivery program forj our Homebound Senior citizens. Each year volunteers raise money to help support the program that provides the nutritious meals for homebound people 60 years or older who have difficulty preparing meals for themselves. While congress provides partial funding for the program through the older American's Act, the fund allocated does not meet the cost of the production and delivery of the meals.

The seniors receiving the meals give a suggested $1 contribution per meal, but no one is denied on the basis of their ability to pay. The program is administered through the Central Arkansas Development Counsil through the Gurdon Sr. Adult Center.

Gurdon Sac provides approximately 1,170 home delivered meals per month.

We hope all will come out and support the Local Meals-on-Wheels annual Walk-a-Thon this year.
