Land Donated For Center Ridge VFD

An acre of land has been donated for a fire station in the Center Ridge Community.

Jewell Rickett donated the property, which is where Center Point Road and South Fork Road meet. Mary Burns, president of the Center Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, said this is the perfect location for the station.

The VFD's board met recently to elect officers, with Burns tabbed to be its first president. Ann Caldwell was named vice president, while Margaret Alice Casteel will be the secretary/treasurer.

Robert Burns was named fire chief, while Jimmy Caldwell is the assistant chief. Ron Gorman will be the department's captain.

The next step to get the department recognized is to get the land surveyed and obtain a long-term lease from Rickett.

Burns said Clark County Judge Grady Runyan will be contacted to do some culvert work on the property. Clearing of the land will begin later this month, she said.

Donations from the community are also being sought, according to Burns. "All help is appreciated."

Once the land is cleared, a 35-foot by 60-foot concrete slab will have to be poured for the station's foundation.
