Gurdon's Season Closing; Go-Devils Post 4-11 Record

It's been a tough year for Gurdon's baseball Go-Devils as the squad has posted a 4-11 record to date.

The Devils opened the season March 5, with an 11-5 loss at the hands of the Junction City Dragons.

In the game, M. Thomerson scored twice after being walked, while D. Houston also crossed the plate on two separate occasions. C. Kinder also scored for the Devils.

On March 11, the Devils were edged by Hot Springs Lakeside 12-11 at Cabe Field.

The Devils scored three runs in the bottom of the first, added two more in the fifth, a pair in the sixth and four in the seventh.

The Rams, however, scored once in the top of the first, six times in the second, once in the third, and three times in the top of the seventh. They won the game with one run in the top of the eighth.

Blevins was Gurdon's first victim as the Devils cooked the Hornets 18-8 on March 14.

Gurdon opened the contest with five runs in the opening frame. The Devils sent 11 around the bases in the second, finishing up with two in the fifth.

Blevins picked up most of its runs in the third, when six runs scored. The Hornets offense was finished in the fourth with another pair and the game was called after five frames because of the 10-run rule.

Hampton cooled the Devils off with a 12-9 win on March 18.

Gurdon got the game underway with two runs in the first. They added four in the fourth and another trio in the sixth.

The host Lions scored once in the first, sent seven to touch them all in the second, added two more in the third, one in the fourth and one in the sixth.

The Dragons remained hot on March 19 as they cooked the Devils 11-4.

Gurdon scored its first run in the top of the fourth and completed its scoring in the sixth with three more runs.

Junction City, sent one across in the first, added four in the second, four more in the fifth and a pair in the sixth.

The third time was a charm when the Devils met with Junction City on March 29, as they recorded a 3-0 win.

The offense ended for Gurdon in the bottom of the first as Brian McGalliard, M. Thomerson and C. Kinder all scored.

Junction City recorded four hits in the contest.

Gurdon made it a clean sweep in the doubleheader with a 14-10 win in the second outing as well.

The Devils got on the board first with a second inning homer from Kinder. They added five more in the third, and a quartet of runs in the fourth. The Devils ended their offensive assault with four runs in the top of the sixth, capped with J. Brewer's grand slam after three straight walks.

The Dragons scored a run in the second, four in the third and fourth frames and once in the bottom of the seventh.

The Devils took it on the chin, 7-1, April 11 when they headed to Fordyce for their date with the Redbugs.

T.J. Curtis scored in the opening inning for Gurdon's lone run.

The 'Bugs scored one in the first and second innings, added three in the third, one in the fifth and a final run in the sixth.

A return to Cabe Field helped Gurdon post a 6-4 win over the Bismarck Lions on April 14.

The visiting Lions scored twice in the top of the third, and once in the sixth and seventh frames.

Gurdon opened its scoring with a run in the second, two in the third, another pair in the fifth and finished with a solo run in the sixth.

April 15 was a bad day all around as Nashville posted a 15-2 win in five innings at Cabe Field.

The Devils scored single runs in the first and second frames.

Nashville, however, sent four around the paths in the opening inning, added two more in the third, six in the fourth and another three in the top of the fifth.

The Scrappers were equally rude on April 18 when they dropped the Devils 14-3 in a six-inning contest.

The visitors opened with two in the first, added three more in the second, another run in the third, a solo homer in the fourth, four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Gurdon scored once in the first and twice in the second.

Traveling to DeQueen was not a pleasant task as the Leopards posted a 15-3 win on April 20.

Gurdon scored all three of its runs in the top of the fifth.

The Leopards, however, opened big with 10 runs in the bottom of the first. They added five more in the third to complete their scoring.

Stamps beat the Devils 13-3 on April 25 in a five inning game.

Again, the Devils scored all their runs in one inning, this time the fourth.

The Yellowjackets opened with two in the first, added another pair in the third and finished with nine in the fourth.

Prescott has also handed the Devils three losses this season.

The 7AA District baseball tournament begins Saturday in DeQueen. As of press time, the brackets are not ready, so it is not known when nor who the Devils will play.
