Classy Moments From GMSPublished Wednesday, April 24, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesThe preparation for our viistors from the State Department of Education were rewarded with compliments and praise. Each Chairperson of the four committees went over their targets, goals, and planned action with a member of the COE evaluation team. It was very obvious that sincere concern of the students was evident in the five year planning program. Some suggestions were made by the Team, and plans to finalize our work is in effect. October 8, 1996 will be the formal evaluation of our work. We are very anxious for that day to take place, although we will be working steady for constant implementation of our actions for the goals we have selected.. The Jr. Beta Club sponsored a basketball tournament between teams from the sixth grade, and teams from the seventh and eighth grades. The students really had a good time, as teams were students that, for some, were not members of the Jr. High Teams. Coaches probably saw students using talent and ability to handle the basketball that surprised them. This was a fund raiser for the Jr. Beta Club, as they are helping to make our building and campus more attractive, and a more pleasant educational evnironment. We hope that you will begin to see an improvement soon. Student Council candidates have lined our hallways with their campaign posters. Severasl have met with Mrs. Clingan to work on their speeches. They will give their speeches Monday during the Assembly. Of course, many of the candidates are very nervous about standing in front of a group and giving a speech, but that is one of the requirements to run for a office or grade representative. They do practice their speeches with the microphone to better prepare themselves for the Big Day. Elections will be held Wednesday. Good luck to all of the candidates. We can hardly keep Mrs. Roe's feet to the floor. She has found out that she is going to be a grandmother to a granddaughter. She has a grandson, Trevor, and is so excited about this little girl. We are all happy for her, but what will she be like when that little baby girl arrives! We may not be able to keep Mrs. Roe under control! Mrs. Smithey, Chapter I teacher, is taking the big plunge, as she, hubby Gary and son Frankie, are busy packing to make a big move to their new "country" home. They have purchased a beautiful home and about 11 acres, they are taking "country living is the life for them" very seriously. We are happy for their excitement, just hope they will quickly become accustomed to the sound of silence. Good luck to you three special people. Students will receive the mid-nine weeks grades for the 4th nine week period Monday, April 22, and are to be returned with parent signature Wednesday, April 24. It is hard to believe that this is the last nine weeks of this school year. Again, we say thanks to you for your support and concern for us as we are always busy and eagerly making more Classey Moments. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
