Lake Pageant May 11Published Wednesday, April 24, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesSave the Children Clark County Youth Development Center, Inc. will sponsor the 4th Annual Miss Gurdon Lake Beauty Pageant in the Gurdon Middle School Auditorium on Saturday, May 11, at 7:00 p.m. Pageant division for girls and young women are divided by age groups: Infants to 4 years, Tiny Miss division, 5-9 years, Pre Teen Miss division, 10-12 years, Junior Miss division, 13-15 years, and Miss Gurdon Lake division for girls 16-21 years. The theme for the pageant will be, "An Enchanted evening." Dr. Helen Johnson, Cosmetologist, Magic Touch Salon; and Dr.Kenneth G. Harris, Dept. of Education, Henderson State University will serve as Mistress and Master of Ceremonies. Competition will include Introduction, Sportswear, Talent, Evening Gown, and Projection. Infants-4, and Tiny miss Division 5-9 will compete solely on the amount of Ads and Ticket sales. Pre Teen Miss division 10-12 years will compete on Introduction, Talent and Sportswear, Junior Miss division 13-15, and Miss Gurdon Lake 16-21 will compete on Introduction, Talent, Swim Wear, Evening Gown, and Projection. The purpose of the pageant is two-fold: 1. To raise funds to support worthwhile activities and projects in our Community. 2. To give our young people an opportunity to perform on the stage, to develop poise and self esteem. The winners in each of the five divisions will receive a trophy and banner. In the Pre Teen Miss, Junior Miss and Miss Gurdon Lake divisions, the winners will receive trophies. In the Miss Gurdon Lake division, the winner will also receive a $250.00 Savings Bond. A Miss Congeniality Trophy will also be awarded. The pageant is open to girls, infants-21 years of age regarless of race, creed, or national origin, that meets the requirements that are set forth by Pageant Committee of Save the Children Clark County Youth Development Center. Special entertainment will be provided by the widely acclaimed international Marching Cobras and Willie A. Smith, of Kansas City, Missouri. A special invitation has been extended to the winners in each division to come to Kansas City, Missouri, and participate in the Queen and King Cobra Pageant. Tickets for the pageant are $2.50 presale and $3.00 at the door. Tickets may be purchased at Clark County Youth Development Center. For further information, please contact the center at 353-6145.
