Hoo Hoo Theatre Awarded $5K GrantPublished Wednesday, April 24, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesGurdon's Hoo Hoo Theater was given a shot in the arm with a $5,000 mini-grant from the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program recently. The grant is to be used for repairs to stabilize the facade of the theater. However, this is a cash matching grant, and no moneys will be received until the Gurdon Historic Preservation Association can show it has raised and spent $5,000 on the theater. Fund raising projects for the theater include the sale of the Centennial Album Reprint, the Gurdon Mini-Mall Thrift Shop, the sale of prints of old historic buildings and the Piggly Wiggly 1 percent sales register tape program. The prints of historic structures were made from original pen and ink drawings of local artist Joyce Taylor. Contributions to the restoration effort can be made to the GHPA at P.O. Box 193, Gurdon, Ark. 71743. Checks should be marked "grant match." Should the GHPA fail to raise its $5,000 match, all donations will be refunded.
